Town Trip

Introduction: 0n Thursday the 20th of May, my class, the Tumu Hub went for a trip. We went to the Margaret Mahy playground, Victoria Square, paddling on the Avon River and fed the eels. The first thing I did was the Eel feeding, we fed them cat food,  it made me feel a bit sick.  I also found out that the Maori name for an Eel is Tuna. Next I went on the Waka.  The Waka is a type of boat that the Maori used to fish for Tuna, in the Avon River.  Being in the Waka made me very excited, it made me feel like I was back in time.

After this, we went to Victoria Square, we got to learn some history about the area and did a sketch of Victoria Square. Victoria Square has a statue of Queen Victoria facing towards the United Kingdom.  because I use different colours and they came out wellThe last thing that we got to do was go back to the Margaret Mahy playground.  At the playground we had to do a treasure hunt, finding lots of Maori objects, such as mats, and special New Zealand animals and plants etched into the concrete.

My favourite part of the trip was going to Victoria Square, learning about the history of the area, and how it was originally occupied by the Maori.

Something I learnt was that Captain James Cook founded New Zealand.

The thing I found the most interesting was the mats dotted along the Avon River represent the Maori culture. The mats are made up of a number of Maori designs of all different colours.

This trip has helped me with my PBL idea. I would make some metal eels and have them attached to the fence at the front and back of school.
